Day 1: Drive to Lake Langano (216km)
Drive south of Addis to the Great Rift Valley passing through the archaeological site at Melka Kunture, where continuing excavations are uncovering exciting evidence of early man.
You continue to the fields outside the small village of Tiya, you will find a wonderful group of steleas, many carved with symbols and weapons.
Continue south to Butajira passing through the villages of the Gurage people and have lunch. P.M. Drive to Lake Ziway, one of the rift valley lakes and home to so many water birds and the island of Debre Tsion which according to the church tradition, the original Ark Of The Covenant was kept in the 10th C because of Gudit, leader of the Agaw people who was destroying Orthodox churches in the north.
Drive further south and transfer to one of the Lake side lodges.
Day 2: Drive back to Addis (220km)
Drive back to Addis with stops at the Abijata Shalla National Park to see the Ostriches, gazelles and Flamingoes. You will also stop at Lake Ziway to see some interesting birdlife such as the Great White Pelicans, African Fish eagle, Kingfishers, Darter, Cormorant, Hammerkop, Marabou and Sacred Ibis. You will also stop at the Awash river and one of the Crater Lakes at Debre Zeit
