Day 1:

This long full day will take you south of Addis Ababa to the archaeological site at Melka Kunture, where continuing excavations are uncovering exciting evidence of early man.

You continue to the fields outside the small village of Tiya, you will find a wonderful group of menhirs, many carved with symbols and weapons.

Visit one of the villages of the Gurage people next to the stelea field before you drive east to one of the Rift Valley Lakes, Lake Ziway.

Have lunch in the lake side Haile resort garden which is a great spot to see birds such as African fish eagle, King fishers, Great White Pelicans, African Jacanna, Sacred Ibis, Marabous, Weaver birds and others.

Drive back to Addis passing through the wetlands around the Koka dam and Awash river and a coffee stop in one of the lake side hotels at Debre Zeit. Late afternoon/early evening arrival back in Addis and transfer to your hotel.
